I've been having trouble with the coons over the deer season tearing up everything I own so I decided to thin them out a little. I haven't ran traps in several years and usually shoot enough coons with my bow to keep them in check but this year the population exploded for some reason. The old timers say its from the drought and after the explanation they gave I believe them. They say that because of the drought all of the stock tanks are low and the fish and frogs become easy pickins for the …

Herds Burger and End of Season
Herds Burger in Jacksboro Texas is an impressive establishment for many reasons but to me the most impressive is that they have been cooking burgers for almost 100 years. They do not do hot dogs or tacos or even French fries, you get a burger and chips in a small bag and a drink from the cooler. I have to guess that at least half of the blockage in my arteries has to be from Herds. I've eaten burgers all over and I mean probably 20 states. I've had chili burgers, California burgers, BBQ, bacon, …
It ain’t always easy
Alex and I decided to try our luck again so we grabbed gear and pointed the old Dodge west. Got to Jacksboro just in time to slide into Dairy Land before they closed, so I might have planned it that way but given the choice I will always eat at local owned cafes over fast food and I would hate to see one of my favorites close. I do my best to keep them open a 20 dollar bill at a time. Alex had his usual nachos and I had BBQ ribs, sliced brisket, beans, and potato salad with bread and sweet tea. …
Ice Road Hunters
Winter has come to Texas and you would think it was the end of the world. Crazy people buying up all the milk and bread like the cows are gonna freeze to death and its the last gallon that we will ever have. No school Friday so me and Alex decided if this is the end we going out with guns in hand and taking all the deer with us we could. It rarely snows here, its mostly just ice storms. A few hours of freezing rain followed by temps in the teens and you have yourself a road made for a hockey …
Turkey Day
Happy Thanksgiving, if you want to read a nice hunting story and see pictures of good food I hate to disappoint this time, you'll have to go read another one here because this one fails in both those categories. As far back as I can remember up until my early 20s my entire family, some 30+ people, gathered in a 1300 sq ft house of my grandparents and ate more food on Thanksgiving day than a small army could eat in a week. There were people in every room, elbow to elbow eating in chairs and on …
