Most guys that don’t live in a western state have to start planning a trip for big game months, if not years ahead of time. Tag draw deadlines are usually in March or April and non resident fees are expensive so planning and money are needed, and for some guys they just don’t want that hassle. Personally I don’t find it a hassle at all anymore but I don’t always know what I’ll be doing 6-8 months ahead of time and nobody wants to draw that expensive tag and then not be able to go, or what if you …

Take What Africa Gives You
Take what Africa gives you is an old saying that I always thought to mean, just go hunt and see what you see. I guess different people can translate it different but to me it's like saying don't worry about how big or what animal and don't pass up animals looking for bigger animals, just take what Africa gives you. That's basically how I hunt anyway. I do think the saying needs to be revised a little to say, take what Africa gives you that your budget allows, because a man with any shooting …
Makuya Park South Africa Fishing and Camping
When planning our South Africa trip I wanted to catch a tiger fish but to get to really good tiger fishing that would require more travel so when I came across a post on an African Hunting page about tiger fish in Limpopo it peaked my interest. Bossie Mostert of Limpopo Big Game Safaris said he had a place on the Luvuvhu River that borders Kruger National Park with tiger fish in it and we could spend a few days there in addition to a hunt. Well this is a no brainer, the man has hunting just …
Let’s Talk About Predators
Most folks predator hunt after deer season and before spring turkey season. Cold winter is prime time for furs. Here in Texas there isn't much of a prime time, we do occasionally get a cold spell that last a few weeks but for the most part furs are never really good. I don't chase the pointy tooth critters for the fur anyway. I will sell some hides if they are decent but my goal is fun and population control. As the price of furs has gone down around here the less guys are trapping so the more …
A hunters emotions: My Montana Mule Deer Hunt
Anything you care about or enjoy doing can and will bring out emotions. A mom in the stands at the baseball game cheering for her son, cares, that's why she's there, that's why she's cheering, that's why when junior strikes out she shows emotion. True hunters care about the game they pursue, they care about having a good hunt and want the reward of taking game for their efforts. Some hunters will even get emotionally attached to their game. I've seen guys almost break down and cry if they've …
