Spring turkey season is here and I have not done my homework and we all know if you don't do your homework you usually fail but sometimes we get lucky and pick all the right answers and pass anyway. This is exactly what happened to us on the opener. I usually know where the birds are roosting, where they are going and where they are coming from but this year I got behind. I plowed my food plot one weekend and did some work around the place and just didn't have time to find birds. The cameras …
Adventures
New Mexico Quail
Well we tried to make a run to New Mexico for some quail, after the amount of birds I seen during antelope season I thought this would be easy, you guessed it I was wrong again. I think if we had some decent weather it would have been fine but snow, ice, sleet, rain, slush, every form of precipitation known to man fell out of the sky at some point and it was cold. We did manage a few birds and as always had a good time so it was worth the trip. Nate and I drove through the night to get an …
I Got the Blues
Since my baby left me, I.........Im kidding it's not that kind of blues, it's not the Double Wide Blues either although if you don't get that reference to the great Todd Snider song you should look it up. It has nothing to do with fishing but it is great tunes. I'm talking about these blues. The beautiful or ugly, depending on who you ask, blue cat of Lake Tawakoni Texas. When the water gets cold in late winter I always try to find my way to Lake Tawakoni to fish with David Hanson of Little …
A week in Michigan
After a few hour drive over from Ohio where I had a great hunt I was in Detroit Michigan. Detroit to Cleveland would be a real short drive except for some little lake in the way, Erie I think they called it. I think if it had been frozen I could have made it on a snow mobile in 45 minutes but I chose the highway like everybody else and had to sit in a car for three hours. We stayed there for a night and went to a hockey game then had a four hour drive the next morning to the hunting grounds. …
Ohio Deer and Flying
Starting a new adventure is always fun but this time I'm doing something I've never done, fly. That's right I've never been on an airplane. Mary Ann and I are planning a big trip, well I'm wishing and she's just saying yes because she's tired of hearing about it, but anyway it will require a lot of air time. Somewhere in the process of researching the trip I realized I've never flown. How am I gonna get on a plane for 20 hours when I've never even seen the inside of one, so I decided to take a …
